Tarcísio's campaign braces for Haddad's security attacks

Allies of São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas anticipate that Fernando Haddad will heavily criticize the administration's public security record in upcoming televised campaign advertisements. This concern stems from a perceived rise in insecurity and a record number of femicides in 2025.

To preemptively address these criticisms, Freitas has placed public safety at the forefront of his government's ten-point platform, even ahead of health and education. His stated goal is to "improve the sense of security, walk without fear, and have tranquility."

The tenure of Guilherme Derrite as Secretary of Public Security has been notably controversial. Some within Freitas's circle view Derrite, a licensed federal deputy and Senate hopeful, as overly focused on his own electoral ambitions, adopting a radical public stance.

Another key point expected to be targeted by Haddad's campaign is the privatization of the water utility Sabesp. The opposition has pointed to incidents like an explosion in the Jaguaré neighborhood that resulted in two deaths and a pipeline rupture in Guarulhos. The PT campaign is reportedly gathering accounts from residents who claim their water bills have increased since privatization.
