Tax Authority employees arrested by Lahav 433 on suspicion of corruption, accepting bribes

Israel Police announced the arrest of several former and current employees of the Tax Authority on suspicion of accepting bribes. The arrests were carried out by the Lahav 433 investigation unit.

According to police, the arrested suspects are believed to have facilitated approximately NIS 80 million in illegal tax returns. These actions were allegedly performed in exchange for bribes. The investigation involved four arrests made at the suspects' homes and offices.

Among those arrested, three were former employees of the Tax Authority. The fourth suspect was serving as an assessment team coordinator in Petah Tikva at the time of their apprehension. The police are continuing their investigation into the alleged corruption scheme.

In a separate but related development, Shas MK Haim Biton was questioned by Lahav 433 last week regarding alleged misconduct and misuse of public funds. He is suspected of using funds from the Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani education network to finance a private Shas-affiliated newspaper while serving as the network's director general approximately seven years ago. This case is expected to be transferred to the state attorney and attorney general for a decision on potential indictments.
