TCN Foils Vandalism Attempt at Bauchi Substation, Recovers Vehicle and Equipment

Security personnel at the Transmission Company of Nigeria's 330/132kV substation in Bauchi successfully thwarted an attempted vandalism and theft. The incident, which occurred on Friday, July 24, 2026, saw suspected vandals attempting to remove critical tower components.

Upon sighting the security guards on duty, the suspects abandoned their operation and fled the scene. A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to be the vehicle used by the vandals.

The recovered materials and the truck have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation. The TCN confirmed that no equipment was stolen and no injuries were sustained during the incident. The company commended its security personnel for their swift action, which prevented damage to vital electricity transmission infrastructure.

Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, urged residents in host communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around power installations. She emphasized that public cooperation is crucial for safeguarding the nation's power infrastructure.
