Teacher Killed, Four Injured in Bangkok School Shooting; Student Dies by Suicide

A teacher was killed and four others were injured in a shooting incident at a school on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thai authorities reported Friday. The assailant, identified as a student at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, died by suicide following the attack.

Images released by emergency services showed ambulances and rescuers attending to the injured outside the school building in the Bang Kruai district, northwest of the capital. One image depicted a person lying on a stretcher, prepared for transport. An 18-year-old student recounted hearing what he initially thought were firecrackers or someone hitting a metal object, not realizing they were gunshots until the sounds repeated.

According to educational authorities, the school had approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 school year. This tragic event marks another instance of gun violence in a Thai educational institution. In February, a teacher was killed and a student injured in an attack at a school in the southern Hat Yai district.

The most devastating incident in recent years was the October 2022 massacre, where a former police officer killed dozens, including many children, in a mass shooting and knife attack in Nong Bua Lamphu province. Despite Thailand having relatively strict gun control laws, illegal firearm possession remains a significant problem, with penalties of up to 10 years in prison for such offenses.

In response to a series of mass shootings, authorities have tightened regulations. Individuals seeking gun permits or license renewals must now undergo mandatory medical assessments. The prevalence of illegal firearms continues to pose a serious challenge to public safety in the country.
