Teacher Shortage Sparks School Boycott in Dehiwatta

Parents in Dehiwatta, Serunuwara, within the Kantale Education Zone, have resorted to keeping their children home from school to protest an ongoing shortage of teachers. The demonstration is a direct response to the authorities' perceived inaction in resolving the critical lack of educators for key subjects across grades six to eleven at Dehiwatta Maha Vidyalaya.

The protesting parents gathered at the school's main entrance, expressing their dissatisfaction with the prolonged issue. They allege that despite numerous appeals to the relevant authorities, no solution has been provided. The shortage particularly affects core subjects, leaving students without consistent instruction.

Adding to the parents' frustration, they claim that a teacher responsible for science and mathematics for grades six through eleven was transferred to their hometown by provincial authorities without the principal's knowledge. The remaining teachers are reportedly struggling to cover multiple subjects, further compromising the quality of education. The parents are demanding immediate action from the authorities to fill the vacant teaching positions and restore normalcy to the school.
