Teachers protest, demand rescue of abducted colleagues, pupils in Oyo State

Teachers and civil society members in Nigeria's Oyo State have taken to the streets to demand urgent government action in rescuing abducted educators and pupils. The protesters voiced grave concerns over the escalating insecurity, warning that the safety of schools and students can no longer be taken for granted.

The demonstration, which took place in Ogbomoso, aimed to pressure authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of those kidnapped. Participants carried placards and chanted slogans, emphasizing the critical need for improved security measures to protect educational institutions and their occupants.

Organizers of the protest highlighted that the abductions have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty within the education sector. They stressed that teachers and students should be able to pursue education without the constant threat of violence and kidnapping.

The groups called on the state government to provide concrete assurances and demonstrate a stronger commitment to combating the rising tide of crime, particularly kidnappings, which they argue are severely impacting the community and the future of its children.
