Team Paraguay presents its athletes for the 2026 South American Games

Paraguay’s 238 athletes for the 2026 South American Games will be officially presented this afternoon at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee in Asunción. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Medallists’ Hall, where the delegation’s flag bearers will also be announced.

The Paraguayan team will head to Santa Fe, Argentina, with the stated goal of improving on its performance at the 2022 Games in Asunción. Paraguay won 48 medals at that edition, its best haul in the competition’s history.

Expectations are high because several of the athletes competing in Argentina are regarded as having strong medal prospects across different disciplines. The delegation’s presentation will also reveal whether medal winners will receive financial rewards for contributing to Paraguay’s target.

The South American Games are held every four years under the calendar of the South American Sports Organization, ODESUR. The competition began in 1978 in La Paz, Bolivia, under the name South Cross Games. The second edition took place in Rosario, Argentina, in 1982, before the event adopted its current name and joined the ODESUR calendar.

Santa Fe 2026 will give Paraguayan sport another chance to measure its progress against the region’s leading athletes, with the 48-medal record from 2022 as the benchmark.
