Tebourba: Six arrested while digging for treasures

Tunisian National Guard agents in Tebourba apprehended six people, one woman among them, who were reportedly digging for treasures and archaeological artifacts inside an old rural house. The arrests occurred Thursday evening.

During the operation, security forces confiscated a recently manufactured digital metal detector, various digging tools, and three large electric jackhammers. Three vehicles, two cars and a truck, were also seized.

Following consultation with the public prosecutor's office at the Court of First Instance in Manouba, all seized equipment and vehicles were ordered confiscated. The suspects were detained and will be prosecuted for forming a conspiracy to excavate for vestiges and treasures.

The investigation has been assigned to the Tebourba National Guard's research and investigation brigade. Initial findings at the scene revealed deep holes and ongoing excavation work within the house, which reportedly belongs to one of the suspects.
