Teen Dies After Boxing Sparring Session in Busan; Police Investigate

An 18-year-old high school student in Busan, South Korea, has died after collapsing at a boxing gym, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The incident occurred on the evening of July 9, when the student collapsed in a restroom after completing a sparring session.

According to reports from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and the Busan Fire Department, the student was engaged in a sparring match with a man in his 20s. After the session concluded, he went to the restroom and was later found unconscious. A gym official discovered the student missing when he didn't return for some time and subsequently called emergency services.

Emergency responders found the student without breathing or pulse, though he was initially transported to the hospital. He received medical treatment but succumbed to his condition 12 days later, on July 21. Police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the precise cause of death. They are also reviewing CCTV footage from the boxing gym to analyze the sparring session's intensity and other factors. Investigators are interviewing the sparring partner and gym staff to ascertain any negligence or intent, and to establish a causal link between the sparring and the student's death, as well as to check for any underlying health conditions or safety lapses at the gym.
