Teenage thieves beaten and robbed after stealing gold bar and cash

A group of young thieves in Gliwice, Poland, targeted beachgoers on August 15, making off with a haul that included mobile phones, documents, cash, and a 20-gram gold bar valued at approximately 11,000 Polish zloty.

The perpetrators, identified as three minors aged 12, 13, and 16, exploited a moment of inattention from their victims at the Czechowice Recreation Center. The stolen items were concealed in a wallet, with the gold bar being a particularly valuable part of the loot.

However, the teenagers' success was short-lived. The following day, two of the alleged thieves, a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old, met with older acquaintances in the city center. When they showed off their stolen goods, the situation quickly escalated. According to police spokesperson Marzena Szwed, the older youths used violence to take the cash and the gold bar, turning the initial thieves into victims of robbery.

Gliwice police apprehended six individuals in connection with the incidents. Two 17-year-olds were arrested on suspicion of robbery, and an 18-year-old was detained for knowingly assisting in the sale of the stolen gold bar. The police successfully recovered all the stolen property. The three original juvenile suspects were also taken into custody. The 12 and 16-year-olds were apprehended three days after the beach theft, while their 13-year-old accomplice was caught two days later attempting another shoplifting offense in Gliwice. The two 17-year-olds face up to 15 years in prison for robbery, and the 18-year-old could receive up to five years for intentional fencing. The cases of the three minors will be handled by the family court.

The older teenagers, as soon as they learned that the younger boys had valuable items with them, used violence against them, taking away the previously stolen cash and the gold bar. In this way, the juvenile thieves themselves became victims of robbery.
