Teenager arrested in Colón for student's murder

Authorities in Colón, Panama, have apprehended a 17-year-old boy suspected of murdering a 15-year-old student from the Gatuncillo Secondary School. The arrest occurred on Friday after weeks of investigation and more than ten search warrants. The crime took place on May 7 in the Nueva Providencia sector, causing shock among the student's family, friends, and the wider educational community.

The coordinated operation involved the Adolescent Prosecutor's Office of the Public Ministry, the National Police, and the Directorate of Judicial Investigation. Police chief Hermógenes Argüelles stated that extensive efforts were made to locate the suspect, who was wanted for crimes against life and personal integrity. "We carried out more than 10 search warrants in search of this adolescent who had this offense against life and personal integrity, but today the capture was made through operational actions and he will now be placed at the disposal of the competent authorities," Argüelles said.

The 17-year-old is expected to be presented before the relevant authorities soon to begin judicial proceedings.
