Teenager drowns in Turkish dam lake

Tragedy struck in Elazığ, Turkey, when an 18-year-old drowned in the Keban Dam Lake while seeking relief from the heat. The incident occurred in the Muratbağı village of the Kovancılar district.

Arda İpek entered the waters of the dam lake around 6:30 PM with his father and another individual. While the father and his companion were able to reach the shore on their own, İpek disappeared beneath the surface.

Following the distress call, emergency services, including health personnel, gendarmerie, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), and divers from the Elazığ Provincial Police Department's Underwater Unit, were dispatched to the scene. The teams initiated a coordinated search and rescue operation at the location where İpek was last seen.

After a thorough search, divers located and recovered the body of the 18-year-old. Following an examination by the public prosecutor, İpek's body was transported to the morgue at Fırat University Hospital for an autopsy.
