Teenager kills grandparents and teachers in Thailand shooting; 5 dead, dozens injured

A shocking act of violence unfolded in Thailand when a 14-year-old boy killed his grandparents at their home before proceeding to his school north of Bangkok, where he fatally shot five teachers and staff members and injured more than thirty others. The perpetrator then took his own life, according to authorities.

The shooting, described as the most severe in Thailand in almost four years, was reportedly "carefully planned." Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated at the scene, the prestigious Debsirin School in Nonthaburi, that initial investigations suggest the teenager suffered from "academic stress" and pressure from his grandparents to achieve good grades.

Police reconstruction indicates the attack began at the boy's home, where he used a pistol belonging to his grandfather. He then traveled to the school and opened fire on faculty and students. Authorities clarified that no students were killed, contrary to earlier reports, and all five deceased were teachers and staff. Nine individuals sustained critical injuries among the more than thirty wounded.

A relative of one of the deceased teachers, who wished to remain anonymous, told journalists that they did not believe there were any "warning signs." They described the student's behavior as normal and stated there were no apparent issues with his education. The relative confirmed the deceased was the school's vice principal and had a long tenure there. The school was evacuated and secured by police and education ministry personnel following the incident.
