Telecel Ghana Kicks Off Nationwide Network Expansion Drive for Stronger Connectivity

Telecel Ghana has initiated a nationwide network infrastructure expansion program, beginning with engineers installing new wireless technology at a telecommunications mast in Madina. This ambitious project aims to significantly improve service quality, boost network capacity, and provide faster, more reliable connectivity for customers throughout Ghana.

We are building extra capacity on this site to reduce congestion and increase internet speeds for thousands of customers in Madina. As data usage continues to grow, these investments ensure our customers enjoy faster speeds, better voice quality and consistently stronger connection.

The expansion fulfills a promise made by CEO Patricia Obo-Nai in March, who assured customers of major network infrastructure improvements starting in the second quarter of the year. Ebenezer Siebu, Director of Technology, explained that the company is deploying advanced technologies to increase capacity and alleviate congestion in high-traffic data areas. "We are building extra capacity on this site to reduce congestion and increase internet speeds for thousands of customers in Madina," Siebu stated. He added that these investments are crucial as data usage continues to rise, ensuring customers benefit from faster speeds, better voice quality, and a more stable connection.

This year, Telecel Ghana plans to roll out similar technology upgrades at over 100 busy sites and enhance more than 1,000 sites nationwide as part of a broader network modernization effort. The company's Health and Safety team was present at the Madina site to ensure adherence to safety standards during the installation work. Huawei engineers and contractors were reminded to prioritize safe work practices.

Head of Networks, Anthony Sam, highlighted the importance of these upgrades for local communities, emphasizing that the investments extend beyond technology. For residents like Adiza, a nursing mother in Madina, the visible network upgrade activity brings excitement. She expressed anticipation for faster network speeds, enabling her to enjoy online content consumption more smoothly. Since rebranding to Telecel Ghana, the company has significantly expanded its network footprint, growing from approximately 5,000 to about 9,000 sites nationwide.
