Temperatures Rise but Rains Return to Uruguay: Forecast Highlights Most Affected Areas

Uruguay is set to experience a shift in weather as rains and storms return, primarily affecting the northern parts of the country starting Monday, July 27, 2026. While temperatures are expected to remain relatively high nationwide for this time of year, with Montevideo reaching up to 19°C, the north is bracing for more significant weather events.

The Institute of Uruguayan Meteorology (Inumet) forecasts that the northwestern region will see deteriorating weather throughout the day, with precipitation and thunderstorms. Strong wind gusts are also anticipated in this area, associated with the storms. This pattern is expected to persist through Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, maintaining higher temperatures.

The northeastern region, while experiencing slightly lower temperatures than the northwest, will also face rain and storms from Monday to Wednesday. These northern areas are predicted to be the most impacted by the adverse weather. Lighter rainfall is expected in the central-south and eastern parts of the country.

Areas least affected by the rain, with only weak precipitation predicted, include the southwest and Montevideo. In the capital, skies are expected to become overcast by Monday afternoon with scarce rainfall, accompanied by fog and mist. Temperatures in Montevideo are forecast to range from a low of 10°C to a high of 19°C on Monday, with similar conditions expected on Tuesday before a notable drop to around 13°C by Wednesday.
