Ten-man Lens beat PSG 1-0 to win French Champions’ trophy

Lens denied Paris Saint-Germain a second trophy in five days, securing a 1-0 victory in the French Champions' Trophy on Sunday. Florian Thauvin's first-half goal was enough to seal the win for Lens in their first match under new coach Dino Toppmoeller.

The victory adds to Lens' French Cup title won in May. PSG, who had recently won the UEFA Super Cup, struggled to find their rhythm at Lens' Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Despite their hosts playing with 10 men after Kyllian Antonio's first-half dismissal for a studs-up tackle, PSG could not capitalize.

"I think we deserved more," admitted PSG coach Luis Enrique. "But I have to congratulate Lens – they won, and they played very well, with their usual intensity… We played a very good match, but we didn’t have the luck we needed."

PSG will now turn their attention to their Ligue 1 title defense, which begins in a week. They will be without defender Nuno Mendes, who was also sent off late in the match. Lens, last season's Ligue 1 runners-up, qualified for this match by winning their first French Cup.
