Ten sentenced to 10 years for hydrocarbon theft in Hidalgo

A group of ten individuals has been sentenced to a decade in prison for the illicit possession of 70,000 liters of hydrocarbon in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. The arrests were made during an operation by federal forces in the locality of Teocalco, within the municipality of Tlaxcoapan.

Elements from the Secretariat of National Defense and the National Guard apprehended the ten men, who were found with the large quantity of fuel. During the operation, authorities also seized 208 meters of high-pressure hose, three vehicles, two firearms, three magazines, 31 live cartridges, and eight cell phones. The seized fuel and other items were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic.

Following federal investigations and an abbreviated procedure before a control judge, the conviction was handed down. In addition to the 10-year prison sentences, each of the convicted individuals is required to pay a fine equivalent to 1,085,700 pesos. The theft and illicit handling of fuel is a significant crime in the southern region of Hidalgo, with Tlaxcoapan and surrounding municipalities being hotspots for such activities.
