Tenant Confesses to Murder of Missing Woman Found Dead in Crete Field

The search for Stavroula Leventaki, who disappeared from Chania, Crete, has ended in tragedy with the discovery of her body. Authorities found the remains in a field approximately five kilometers from her home, in an advanced state of decomposition.

The perpetrator, identified as the victim's tenant, a 43-year-old man from North Macedonia, has confessed to the crime. He led investigators to the location where he had buried Leventaki's body.

Prior to his confession, the suspect had been a person of interest for the police. He had given interviews to media outlets, including Live News, expressing hope that nothing had happened to Leventaki, stating, "I wish nothing has happened so we can all rest, because it has turned our lives upside down." He was the last person known to have seen and spoken with the 45-year-old woman before her disappearance.

During his interviews, the suspect described Leventaki in negative terms, suggesting she was untrustworthy and unstable. He claimed they had argued previously because she wanted to evict them from the house, adding, "You never knew when she was lying or telling the truth. Everyone knows the woman is crazy."

He also provided a timeline of events, stating Leventaki called him on May 29th and arranged to visit his home at 4:45 PM, mentioning she was in a hurry to catch a 5:00 PM bus. He claimed their meeting lasted only 2-3 minutes, during which she gave him rent money. He denied any personal friction, stating they had a good relationship and would often sit outside, share a beer, and chat. He suggested Leventaki had issues with her brother, who he claimed had recently evicted her for not financially supporting their parents.
