Tennis: Hsieh Su-wei and Ostapenko Reach Toronto Doubles Semifinals

Taiwanese tennis star Hsieh Su-wei and her Latvian partner Jelena Ostapenko have secured a spot in the semifinals of the WTA Toronto Open. The fifth-seeded duo demonstrated strong chemistry and experience as they defeated Clara Tauson of Denmark and American Ann Li in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

This victory marks their third consecutive win in the tournament, which serves as a crucial warm-up for the upcoming US Open. Hsieh and Ostapenko, who reunited in February after a nearly six-month hiatus, have shown impressive form, overcoming an early deficit in the first set to eventually take control.

The "Taiwan-Latvia alliance," as they are known, faced a tough challenge from the unseeded Tauson and Li, who fought back after falling behind. Despite a mid-set wobble where they lost a 4-0 lead in the second set, Hsieh and Ostapenko regrouped to close out the match.

They are now set to compete against the third-seeded Italian-American pair, Sara Errani and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, for a place in the championship match. The win continues Hsieh Su-wei's strong performance this season.
