Tennis Legend Federer Eyes Return to Play After Hall of Fame Induction

Tennis icon Roger Federer, soon to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, shared his reflections on his illustrious career and his future aspirations for the sport. Federer views the Hall of Fame induction as a significant honor, distinct from on-court achievements, offering a platform to assess his overall contribution to tennis.

He emphasized that the Hall of Fame recognition goes beyond trophies and rankings, serving as a measure of his impact. The former world number one, with 20 Grand Slam titles, aims to represent the sport well and contribute to its positive development.

Looking ahead, Federer expressed a desire to remain connected to the game by participating in three to five tournaments annually. He also intends to engage with tennis leadership, including the ATP, Grand Slams, and player councils, to help steer the sport in the right direction. His goals include improving prize money for early-round matches and enhancing player welfare to ensure more athletes can sustain a living from the sport.

But more importantly, perhaps through dialogue with the leaders of this sport, including the ATP, the Grand Slams, the players, and the council, to help move the sport in the right direction, increase prize money for the first two rounds, and improve related benefits so that more players can make a living from it.

Since retiring in 2022, Federer has remained involved in tennis, recently participating in an exhibition match at the US Open. He may also serve as a captain for the Laver Cup, mentoring younger players, or take on a commentary role. Federer believes that actively contributing to tennis will be invigorating and meaningful for him.
