Tension in Las Acacias: House Shot From Motorcycle, Dozens of Shots Fired

A house in Montevideo's Las Acacias neighborhood was targeted in a drive-by shooting on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The attack, which occurred at the intersection of Timbúes and Luis Galvani streets, involved a motorcycle carrying two individuals who fired shots at the residence.

According to reports from Subrayado and confirmed by El País with Montevideo police sources, the incident took place around 1:00 PM. Fortunately, no one was injured. Forensic police processed the scene, discovering 27 shell casings and two projectiles. This marks another instance of gun violence in the area, raising concerns among residents.

Authorities are investigating a potential link between this shooting and a similar incident that occurred just a few blocks away in the Marconi neighborhood on Tuesday. The frequency of such events has escalated, with a particularly alarming incident in early June where the ShotSpotter system detected over 500 gunshots in the Marconi area in a single night. That event included 96 shots fired around 9:00 PM on June 3, followed by an astonishing 432 shots between 1:30 AM and the early morning hours in another part of Marconi.

The recent violence also comes amid other crime-related incidents in Montevideo, including a three-year-old girl being seriously injured by a stray bullet in the Piedras Blancas neighborhood on Wednesday. The child was accidentally shot while two individuals were handling a firearm. Investigations into that incident are ongoing.
