Terrorist surrenders rise 213% in one week — Military

The Nigerian military has observed a significant surge in terrorist fighters and their associates surrendering, with a 213% increase reported in just one week. This development follows intensified operations by troops under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), which are focused on weakening terrorist capabilities and disrupting their supply chains in the North East.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer, stated that the sustained military actions, including ground assaults and efforts to block logistics, have led to this rise in surrenders. He noted that the growing number of fighters abandoning their activities reflects a shift in morale and a willingness to submit to established surrender procedures.

During the period under review, the Theatre recorded a 213 per cent increase in terrorist surrenders compared with the preceding week.

In a related success, two prominent terrorist members surrendered, bringing with them arms, ammunition, and other military equipment. The recovery of these items further underscores the impact of ongoing military pressure on the cohesion and operational sustainability of terrorist groups. The military believes this indicates a diminishing capacity for prolonged operations.

Further evidence of the military's effectiveness comes from surrenders in Bama, where groups handed over mobile phones and other items. The military attributes these increasing surrenders to its multi-dimensional approach, which combines offensive ground operations with precise engagements and the systematic disruption of terrorist logistics. By restricting movement and resupply, troops are limiting terrorist options and undermining their ability to sustain activities.
