Texas homeowner finds more than 20 rattlesnakes emerging from beneath house

A routine call to remove wildlife from under a Texas home turned into a startling discovery when specialists found more than 20 rattlesnakes. Snake wrangler Sheila Taber described the crawl space as "a whole den" as snakes continued to emerge during the removal.

Dallas Fort Worth Wildlife Control eventually removed approximately two dozen rattlesnakes from beneath the Aledo residence. The company owner, Randall Kennedy, noted that the crawl space offered attractive conditions for the snakes, including cooler temperatures compared to the outside heat and a readily available food source. Rats and rabbits were present, providing ample prey.

Texas is home to 10 species of rattlesnakes, which play a vital role in the state's ecosystem by regulating rodent populations. While the discovery was unusual, experts note that snakes are often drawn to residential areas seeking food and shelter. The spaces beneath homes can provide protection from predators and extreme weather, making them appealing habitats.

Wildlife officials emphasize that the snakes likely did not deliberately target the home but were utilizing the available resources. The combination of shade, stable temperatures, and a nearby food supply created ideal conditions for a significant snake concentration. Kennedy added that spaces comfortable for humans can also be attractive to snakes.
