Texas offers free Spanish-language OSHA construction safety classes

The Texas Department of Insurance's Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) is providing complimentary OSHA construction safety training in Spanish. These classes aim to equip workers with essential safety knowledge and are scheduled in Austin, El Paso, San Antonio, and Houston. The program offers opportunities through October, but availability is limited, emphasizing the need for early registration.

To be eligible for these courses, individuals must be Texas residents or currently employed within the state. A crucial requirement is the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in Spanish, the language of instruction. Attendees must also commit to completing the entire training program across all scheduled sessions to receive their OSHA construction card.

The training covers the standards and requirements set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) specifically for the construction industry. Instructors will guide participants on recognizing workplace hazards and implementing strategies to mitigate associated risks. The in-person format is designed to encourage active engagement from attendees.

Upon successful completion of the two-day in-person course or a three-day virtual option, participants will receive a 10-hour OSHA Construction card, typically within six to eight weeks. The DWC also offers training in English at various locations, including Fort Worth and Wichita Falls, as well as via Zoom. All attendees are required to present a valid photo identification.
