Thai police seize 500kg of meth worth $12.52 million

Thai police have seized 500 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at approximately $12.52 million, in an operation in Narathiwat province. The drugs were reportedly being smuggled to a neighboring country.

The seizure followed the arrest of a high-ranking member of a major drug syndicate. Authorities described the arrested individual as a key figure within the organization. The operation took place in Ban Kawa, Sungai Padi district, on Monday afternoon.

According to the Narathiwat Provincial Police, the successful bust was the result of intelligence gathering and follow-up investigations into previously apprehended syndicate members. The syndicate is identified as one of the largest and most active in Southern Thailand, with extensive networks extending to northern Thailand and Malaysia. The seized drugs were discovered hidden in tall grass on a palm oil plantation.

Police estimate the value of the confiscated methamphetamine at nearly $12.52 million. This operation is considered a significant success in intercepting a large drug shipment before it could be distributed locally or smuggled across borders. The syndicate is believed to have been active since late last year, operating in several provinces, with Narathiwat, bordering Kelantan, serving as their main base.
