'Thailand Plan': Young French Nationals Caught in Drug Trafficking Trap via Snapchat, Promised Free Vacations

A concerning trend has emerged involving young French citizens being allegedly lured into drug trafficking by criminal networks operating through social media platforms like Snapchat. At least five individuals, all between 18 and 26 years old, are currently detained in Thailand and Hong Kong.

These young travelers face severe legal consequences, including potential life imprisonment, following the discovery of cannabis in their luggage at airport customs. The circumstances suggest they may have been exploited as drug mules, unaware of the full extent of their involvement or the risks involved.

Some of the detained individuals assert that they were recruited under false pretenses. They claim they were approached via Snapchat and promised free vacations in exchange for transporting what they believed to be computer equipment. This narrative highlights a sophisticated recruitment tactic used by traffickers to ensnare unsuspecting youths.
