Thailand to host international air mobility symposium

Thailand is set to host the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Advanced Air Mobility Symposium in December, a move designed to bolster the nation's position as a regional aviation hub. The event, scheduled from December 3-15, is expected to draw approximately 1,500 participants, including representatives from industry, government, and regulatory bodies from ICAO's 191 member states.

The symposium aims to create significant opportunities for investment and technological advancement within the aviation sector. It will focus on emerging aviation technologies, air traffic management, infrastructure development, and research. By hosting this event, Thailand seeks to attract investment in advanced air mobility (AAM) and related technologies, supporting the growth of new industries, job creation, and the development of domestic supply chains.

Transport Minister Phiphat ratchakitprakarn highlighted that hosting the symposium would allow Thailand to demonstrate its readiness to implement the AAM Ecosystem Vision. He emphasized that AAM should be viewed not just as a new form of air transport but as an integral part of the future transportation system. This requires preparing regulations, policies, safety standards, infrastructure, and workforce development.

The event is expected to facilitate connections between Thai professionals, universities, and businesses with international experts and technology developers. The symposium will feature flight demonstrations, exhibitions of new air technologies, and international discussions, building on the momentum from the ICAO AAM Symposium held in Montreal in 2024.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the Ministry of Transport are collaborating with ICAO to record the symposium's outcomes in a "Bangkok Statement." This initiative is part of Thailand's broader strategy to contribute to long-term aviation development and strengthen its role in global aviation cooperation.
