The 2026-2027 school year begins with new rules. When the holidays are scheduled

Romania’s 2026-2027 school year will begin on Monday, September 7, 2026, and will be divided into five teaching modules over 36 weeks. For most students, the final school day will be June 18, 2027, although terminal classes will finish earlier.

The new year brings several changes. Baccalaureate competency exams will take place in April for the first time, while students entering ninth grade will become the first cohort to study under new high-school curriculum frameworks and syllabuses.

The first teaching module runs from September 7 to October 23, followed by the autumn break from October 24 to November 1. The second module runs from November 2 to December 22, with the winter holiday from December 23 through January 10. The third module runs until February 12, 19, or 26, depending on each school inspectorate’s decision about the one-week ski holiday. The fourth module then begins on February 22, March 1, or March 8 and ends on April 23. The spring break runs from April 24 to May 4, followed by the final module from May 5 to June 18. The summer holiday begins June 19 and ends September 5, 2027.

The ski holiday must fall between February 15 and March 7, 2027. Twelfth-grade students and thirteenth-grade students in evening or reduced-frequency education finish on June 4. Eighth graders finish on June 11, while students in technological and vocational education continue until June 25.

The “Different School” and “Green Week” programs will take place between September 7 and April 23. Each lasts five consecutive working days, with schools choosing the dates, but the programs must occur in different modules. No classes will be held on public holidays or on October 5, International Education Day.

National assessment registration for eighth-grade graduates will run from June 7 to 11, 2027. The Romanian language and literature exam is scheduled for June 22, mathematics for June 24, and the mother-tongue exam for June 25.
