Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, has claimed the top spot as Europe's leading espionage agency, according to a recent survey that has delighted its operatives.

The ranking, published by French news weekly L'Express, employed a Eurovision-style poll where 60 current and former European spies, along with representatives from the CIA and Israel's Mossad, cast secret votes for their top five foreign intelligence agencies. MI6 secured a commanding lead with 251 points, significantly outranking the French external intelligence agency, DGSE, which garnered 169 points.

The survey results tap into a global fascination with espionage, often amplified by fictional portrayals like James Bond, which lend MI6 a certain swagger. While the film and television dramas are fictional, the agency's perceived effectiveness and mystique appear to resonate internationally, positioning it favorably against other global intelligence bodies.
