“The Disinformation Network”: Christian Chena’s defense asks court to investigate alleged ruling leak

Christian Chena's defense has filed a complaint with Paraguay's Supreme Court supervisory council over an alleged leak of confidential information in the case known as “The Disinformation Network.”

The complaint, submitted by Chena's lawyer Alejandra Peralta Merlo, asks for an investigation into how attorney Gustavo Aníbal Leguizamón Acha allegedly obtained advance knowledge of the direction of a ruling by the First Criminal Appeals Chamber. The defense says he was not yet formally part of the proceedings or connected to the case.

The complaint concerns an appeal filed by Chena in the criminal defamation case brought against Despierta Paraguay. Peralta Merlo said on X that the filing followed reports of a possible leak from the appeals court to Leguizamón, who had previously represented Yecika Bracho.

After learning of a possible leak of information from the First Criminal Appeals Chamber to Yecika Bracho's former lawyer, Gustavo Leguizamón Acha, who had advance knowledge of the votes rejecting Christian Chena's claims in the defamation case against Despierta Paraguay, we proceeded to report these facts to the Supreme Court supervisory council, hoping they will be clarified and the appropriate sanctions applied.

“After learning of a possible leak of information from the First Criminal Appeals Chamber to Yecika Bracho's former lawyer, Gustavo Leguizamón Acha, who had advance knowledge of the votes rejecting Christian Chena's claims in the defamation case against Despierta Paraguay, we proceeded to report these facts to the Supreme Court supervisory council, hoping they will be clarified and the appropriate sanctions applied,” she said.

The defense pointed to conversations attributed to Leguizamón and Bracho. In a message allegedly sent on June 23, 2026, Leguizamón wrote: “I have confidential information that the Chamber's ruling will be issued soon, rejecting Chena's claims. That means the five working days will continue to run.” The complaint also cites a June 17 message in which he allegedly told Bracho about a meeting at the courts with someone who could provide a clearer picture of what might happen in the Appeals Chamber.
