The GlenDronach’s ‘King of Sherry’ Captures a 200-Year-Old Banquet in One Glass

The GlenDronach is marking its 200th anniversary by turning a piece of its history into a limited whisky release. At a masterclass in Seoul, brand ambassador Lim Byung-jin introduced the Boynsmill House Edition, a special bottling named after the former name of the land where the distillery was founded.

“While sherry casks express The GlenDronach’s tradition, I think claret casks evoke the lavish banquets and tables enjoyed by founder James Allardice,” Lim said. He presented the limited edition on the eighth at the Josun Palace Seoul Gangnam in Seoul’s Gangnam district.

Allardice established the distillery in 1826 on his farm in the Scottish Highlands. The property’s former name was Boynsmill. Boynsmill House, built in 1771, still bears the initials of Allardice’s parents, William Allardice and Catherine Stewart.

Known as a sociable and active figure, Allardice reportedly hosted banquets for nobles and members of high society at the house. The new edition draws on that setting, connecting the distillery’s long sherry-cask tradition with the founder’s remembered feasts.
