“The Importance of Nordic Cooperation for Iceland Is Growing Steadily”

Ásta S. Fjeldsted has taken her seat on the board of Nordic Compass, a new forum bringing together business leaders from across the Nordic region. The Festi chief executive attended her first board meeting in Oslo.

Nordic Compass is working on proposals covering financial markets, a broad range of technologies, defense and energy. Its stated aim is to strengthen the countries’ competitiveness and resilience while producing measurable benefits through targeted recommendations.

Fjeldsted said Nordic cooperation is becoming increasingly important for Iceland, particularly as international conditions change. She described the Nordic countries collectively as the world’s 12th-largest economy, with 28 million inhabitants, and pointed to their quality of life, strong businesses, innovation, equality and trusted governance as values sought around the world.

She said Iceland could help promote competitiveness and growth across the region through closer cooperation. The group plans to hold the Nordic Compass Summit in Gothenburg on Nov. 5, where it will present practical proposals to decision-makers, governments, institutions and business representatives.
