"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 3 trailer drops at Comic-Con, reveals new characters

The highly anticipated third season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," television's most expensive series, unveiled its trailer at San Diego Comic-Con. The sneak peek introduced key new characters, including the Nazgûl, and offered a glimpse into the escalating conflict in Middle-earth. The trailer sets the stage for the challenges facing the heroes and warriors in the upcoming installment of the "Lord of the Rings" prequel, which is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video on November 11.

"The shadow is rising in Middle-earth," declares Sauron in the trailer, underscoring his relentless pursuit of forging the One Ring. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay revealed that the third season picks up years after the events of the second, focusing on Sauron's persistent attempts to create the master ring. "Sauron has been expanding his troops throughout Middle-earth... There are a few pockets of resistance that can keep him at bay," Payne explained during the panel. Charlie Vickers, who portrays the Dark Lord, elaborated that Sauron is intensely focused on finding a way to achieve his goal from within Barad-dûr.

The Comic-Con presentation also introduced several new cast members. Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, and Andrew Richardson will portray Anarion, a significant figure from Gondor. Jamie Campbell Bower, known for his role in "Stranger Things," also joined the panel and shared his emotional reaction to being cast as Celeborn, one of Middle-earth's wise and powerful elves. The event also included a preview of Amazon Prime's dystopian miniseries "Blade Runner 2099," set to premiere on November 25 and described by its executive producer, Silka Luisa, as a "rebirth of a city and the rebirth of all our characters."
