The New Light Rail System Is Not Easy in Every Respect

Trying the light rail on a journey home from Herlev Hospital to Rødovre exposed several problems, a reader writes. At the exit, there were no clear public-transport signs, and it took a long time to find the stop and determine the direction of travel.

The route information appeared in tiny letters on a display that sunlight made difficult to read. The basic travel-card terminal stood at the far end of the stop. The route planner did not show which buses connected at individual stops, and no transfer information was announced during the journey.

The reader says the train also needed more information screens. The only visible screen stood too far away to read. At Rødovre Nord, there was no useful signage to help locate bus 7A.

The letter’s strongest criticism concerns the bus routes that disappeared after the light rail opened. Along the route between Glostrup and Vallensbæk, stops at Brøndbyernes Haveby, Denmark’s largest allotment-garden area, and Brøndby Golf Club were removed. The writer says the decision has particularly affected older allotment owners and golf-club members who do not drive.
