‘The Pitt’ leads Emmy race with 25 nominations, followed by ‘Hacks’ and ‘Beef’

The hospital drama “The Pitt” is the leading contender for this year’s Emmy Awards, earning 25 nominations for its second season. The comedy series “Hacks” follows closely with 24, while the second season of the miniseries “Beef” received 16 nominations.

“The Pitt” is again in contention for best drama series, a prize it won last year. The series follows emergency doctors, nurses and patients hour by hour in Pittsburgh, at one of the busiest emergency departments in the United States. Noah Wyle, who plays lead character Robby, the doctor trying to run the emergency department, also received an acting nomination.

Its main drama challenger is “Pluribus,” a dystopian series created by Vince Gilligan, the force behind “Breaking Bad.” The show received 18 nominations, including one for Rhea Seehorn in the best drama actress category. Seehorn plays a novelist who becomes isolated in a dystopian world and won a Golden Globe for the role in January.

In comedy, “Hacks” earned 24 nominations for its fifth and final season. The series follows an older comedian and her young assistant as they learn from each other about their work and their lives. It has received five consecutive nominations for best comedy series but has won only once, in 2024. Jean Smart, who has already won four Emmys for her performance, is nominated again for best comedy actress.

“Hacks” faces competition from “Widow’s Bay,” a new Apple TV comedy with 19 nominations. In the miniseries categories, “Beef” collected most of the nominations after its first season won three Emmys. The awards organization announced the leading contenders ahead of the ceremony in September.
