"The Speed Racer" 35th Anniversary Project Faces Setback: 1:1 Scale Car Build Canceled

A highly anticipated 1:1 scale replica of the iconic "The Speed Racer" car, ν-Asurada AKF-0/G, has been canceled. The project, part of the anime's 35th-anniversary celebrations, was set to feature a functional, transforming vehicle.

The 1:1 scale car build has always been the soul and core of this project. However, in the process of actually promoting the plan, severe reality challenges and huge obstacles also followed.

DA-13 Cool Dream Starship, the organizer, announced the cancellation of both the 1:1 scale car build and associated physical exhibitions. The project aimed to bring the legendary race car from the anime to life, with a prototype of a "front four-wheel steering system" already developed by Taiwanese teams. This prototype was intended to showcase the car's classic "body transformation system."

However, organizers cited "severe reality challenges and huge obstacles" encountered during the project's progression. They stated that the team's current resources and finances were insufficient to complete such a large-scale undertaking within the limited timeframe. Consequently, an agreement was reached with BNF to cancel the ambitious car build and exhibition.

With the team's current resources and finances, it is not enough to perfectly support such a large-scale grand project within such a limited time.

Despite the cancellation of the physical project, DA-13 Cool Dream Starship confirmed that all 35th-anniversary official licensed merchandise will still be released. Production, inspection, and shipping schedules for these items remain unaffected.
