The story continues: Modrić will keep playing for Croatia

Luka Modrić has decided that his international career is not over. The Milan midfielder will continue playing for Croatia in the Nations League this autumn, despite speculation that the World Cup in North America might have been his final appearance for the national team.

Modrić, who turns 41 on Sept. 9, told coach Slaven Bilić and federation president Marijan Kustić that he is available for all six matches Croatia will play from September to November in Group A3. The schedule includes games against Spain, England and the Czech Republic.

The decision follows Croatia’s elimination by Portugal in the round of 32 at the World Cup on July 2. After five appearances at the world’s top international tournament, questions arose over whether the match had marked the end of Modrić’s national-team career.

Croatia opens its campaign away to the Czech Republic on Sept. 26, followed by a match against Spain in Seville three days later.
