A man wanted for 27 years for a crime committed in Sydney, Australia, in 1999 has been apprehended by Greek authorities. James Dalamagas, 55, had been living under the alias Antonis Tzimas in Alsos Aigialeias for the past 18 years, transforming his residence into a fortress.

From police officers of the Anti-Crime and Investigation Department of Aigialeia, a 56-year-old local man was arrested this afternoon, Sunday, June 7, 2026, in an area of Achaia, against whom an Interpol Red Notice from Australia was pending for the crime of homicide.

Dalamagas was intercepted while leaving his home in a pickup truck belonging to his partner, a local resident. Traveling with him in the vehicle were his partner and his 86-year-old father, who had reportedly traveled from Australia, where he resides with Dalamagas's mother, to secretly visit his son.

His arrest was carried out after utilizing information received by the Directorate of International Police Cooperation of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, according to which the wanted person was residing in the Achaia region using false identity details.

Authorities from the Aigialeia Security Department stopped the vehicle under the guise of a routine check. As Dalamagas possessed no identification, he was taken in for questioning. His partner and father were also brought to the police station, now facing charges of harboring a fugitive. The Hellenic Police confirmed the arrest, noting that Dalamagas, who has long, curly white hair, bore little resemblance to his appearance when he lived in Australia or to the sketches provided by authorities.

Specifically, this morning (07-06-2026), the 56-year-old was located traveling by vehicle with an 86-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman. During the police check, he stated false details about his identity and claimed he did not have an ID card with him, a claim supported by his two passengers.
