Theatre command confirms bandits abduction of Zamfara LG chairman

Bandits have abducted Alhaji Nura Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara state, following a violent attack on his residence. The Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) confirmed the incident, stating that armed terrorists overpowered the chairman's security detail. The attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two police personnel and a local vigilante who resisted the assailants. A civilian was also killed, and the chairman's elder brother was injured.

On hearing gunshots, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded immediately and swiftly moved to the scene where they engaged in hot pursuit of the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.

During the early morning raid, the terrorists managed to abduct Chairman Abdullahi after a fierce exchange of fire with responding troops. However, OPFY troops successfully rescued five of the chairman's family members, including two children, his wife, and his mother, who had been taken hostage. The chairman was narrowly taken into the surrounding bushes by the fleeing bandits.

Troops’ prompt intervention forced the terrorists to abandon five of the chairman’s family members comprising two of his children, mother, wife and his relative, who were successfully rescued.

In response to the abduction, the theatre command has initiated a coordinated search and rescue operation. This effort involves troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes. Security forces are actively conducting operations in suspected bandit hideouts with the aim of safely recovering the abducted chairman. The command has assured the public that all available resources are being deployed and that close coordination is maintained with all participating security agencies. They are resolute in their mandate to protect lives and property and bring the perpetrators to justice.
