Thessaloniki: 7-year-old survivor of fatal family crash shows gradual recovery

A 7-year-old girl from Moldova, the sole survivor of a devastating road accident that claimed her family, is gradually waking up in a Thessaloniki hospital. The tragic collision occurred days ago on the provincial road between Polygyros and Agios Nikolaos, near Metamorfosi.

The girl was traveling with her parents and her six-month-old sister when their passenger car collided with a tanker truck. In the accident, she lost both parents and her infant sibling. Initially requiring intubation, her condition at the Hippocrates hospital has shown improvement, with doctors noting positive developments. They have begun reducing her medication, and if her recovery continues, she is expected to be fully extubated.

The child is reportedly responsive to her surroundings, indicating a positive trajectory for her recovery. She was first taken to the Polygyros hospital before being transferred to the Papageorgiou hospital in Thessaloniki. There, she underwent two surgeries to address severe injuries to her chest and femur. Following the operations, she was placed on a ventilator and is currently being cared for in a pediatric intensive care unit.
