Thessaloniki: Double fire outbreak prompts emergency alert

Authorities have issued an emergency alert for two separate fires burning in the Thessaloniki region. The blazes, initially reported in the municipality of Thermaikos and shortly after in the settlement of Tsairia in Perea, have raised concerns among local residents.

An alert message was sent via the 112 emergency number shortly after 6 p.m. local time. Residents were instructed to remain in their homes and close doors and windows for safety reasons. The fires began in low vegetation shortly after 5 p.m.

While there is no immediate threat to residential areas, firefighting forces are fully mobilized. The response includes 31 firefighters with nine vehicles, and a helicopter is providing aerial support, making continuous water drops to combat the flames. The proximity of one fire to the airport has heightened concerns about its potential spread.
