Thessaloniki Under Heavy Police Guard for 2026 International Fair

Thessaloniki is bracing for a significant security operation as it prepares to host the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), with over 3,500 police officers set to patrol the city. The Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) has developed an extensive plan to ensure the safety of the event, political figures, and the thousands of expected attendees.

Security measures will commence on Thursday, September 3, and will be significantly amplified over the first weekend. This period includes the Prime Minister's address and his traditional press conference, drawing considerable attention and requiring robust security protocols. Reinforcements from Athens and other regions will bolster the local police presence, with 55 special units joining the effort.

Authorities are prioritizing the protection of dignitaries, the smooth execution of fair events, and the management of anticipated gatherings and marches.
