Third drone, suspected explosives found near German airport after attempted attack

German investigators have discovered a third drone and suspected explosives connected to an attempted attack on the Leipzig/Halle airport, according to reports from broadcasters NDR and WDR and the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. The drone was found on August 14, ten days after the initial incident, to the west of the airport.

Investigators also discovered approximately 50 grams of a substance believed to be the military explosive hexogen near the drone. The office of the prosecutor general has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Security sources cited in the reports suspect Russian intelligence was involved in the attempted attack, though Moscow has denied any such involvement. The Leipzig/Halle airport serves as a significant cargo and military logistics hub, utilized by NATO and Ukraine's Antonov Airlines for military supplies.

On August 4, a drone carrying explosives was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft used for military supplies. Investigators also suspect a second drone may have collided with a DHL cargo plane shortly after the airport was temporarily shut down.
