Thirteen Portuguese districts on yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms

Much of mainland Portugal is bracing for unsettled weather as thirteen districts have been placed on yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms. The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued the warning, indicating the potential for significant rainfall and electrical storms across the country.

The affected districts include Bragança, Vila Real, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Porto, Aveiro, Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, and Setúbal. Residents in the northern and central regions can expect periods of rain or "sometimes heavy" showers throughout the day.

Coastal areas along the western seaboard are particularly vulnerable, with forecasts predicting strong winds and sea swells of up to two meters. The IPMA also noted a slight decrease in temperatures, especially the maximums, with highs in district capitals expected to range between 19 and 26 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will vary between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius.

In Lisbon, temperatures are predicted to range from 17 to 24 degrees Celsius. The capital is expected to experience generally very cloudy skies, with some clearing in the afternoon. Periods of rain, which could be heavy at times and occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, are also anticipated.
