Thirteen wild animals rescued in Ecuadorian operation

A joint operation by Ecuador's Ministry of Environment, the National Police's Environmental Protection Unit, and the Armed Forces has led to the rescue of thirteen wild animals in the Manabí province. The operation, conducted in the canton of 24 de Mayo, targeted the illegal trafficking of wildlife.

The rescued specimens include two red-lored parrots, two yellow-naped parrots, one caiman, one boa constrictor, one ocelot, four coastal side-necked turtles, and two common snapping turtles. These animals were immediately transported to a specialized wildlife rehabilitation center to receive the necessary care and attention.

At the rehabilitation center, specialists will assess the condition and needs of each animal. The primary goal is to ensure their well-being and determine if they can be safely returned to their natural habitat. This effort is part of broader measures to control and combat the illegal wildlife trade in Ecuador.

Authorities are also initiating investigations to identify and prosecute those responsible for the trafficking of these animals. The collaborative work between the Ministry of Environment, the Police, and the Armed Forces aims to strengthen biodiversity protection and disrupt illegal wildlife activities.
