Thomas Christiansen Renews Contract as Panama Coach Through 2030

Thomas Christiansen will remain in charge of Panama’s men’s national team through 2030, extending a coaching tenure that has reshaped the country’s recent football record.

The Panamanian Football Federation announced the renewal on social media with the message: “The story continues! Thomas Christiansen remains at the helm of Panama’s senior men’s national team for the next four years. 2030 awaits us.” Christiansen will address the media on Wednesday as the federation begins a new cycle and presents the structure of its men’s national teams.

Christiansen took over in 2020 and has since led Panama in 92 matches, with 44 victories, 21 draws and 27 defeats. He guided the team to its second World Cup appearance in 2026 and helped it reach the Concacaf Nations League Final Four three consecutive times. Panama also finished runner-up in the tournament and reached the 2023 Gold Cup final, its best performance in that competition since 2005.

Under the Hispano-Danish coach, Panama reached the Copa América quarterfinals for the first time in 2024. Christiansen also brought new players into the squad and consolidated a group that succeeded the figures involved in Panama’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

He became the most capped coach in the history of Panama’s senior national team in June 2025. The team also climbed from 81st in the FIFA rankings in September 2020 to a record 29th place in 2025. After appearing at the 2026 World Cup, Panama fell to 44th. The federation’s decision keeps Christiansen in place for the next qualifying cycle toward the 2030 tournament.
