Thousands Attend Dong Thap Fruit Festival Showcasing Local Produce and Culture

Thousands of people flocked to Hung Vuong Square in Dong Thap province for the opening night of a lively fruit festival. Visitors enthusiastically engaged with displays of boats laden with various fruits, admired giant fruit-shaped floats, and savored dishes and drinks made from local produce.

Phạm Thành Ngại, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, delivered the opening speech, highlighting the festival's significance as a cultural, tourism, and commercial event. He stated that the festival serves to honor the hard work of farmers, promote the potential and strengths of the fruit industry, and introduce the image of Dong Thap's homeland, nature, and people.

Ngại expressed Dong Thap's hope that the festival would forge strong connections among "5 stakeholders": farmers, scientists, businesses, credit institutions, and logistics providers. This collaboration, he believes, will open new avenues for cooperation and further promote Vietnamese fruits as safe, high-quality, nutritious, and culturally rich products.

Dong Thap is a leading fruit-producing region in Vietnam, boasting over 130,000 hectares of orchards yielding more than 2.5 million tons annually. The province is transitioning from an agricultural production mindset to an agricultural economy, focusing on value chain development, quality improvement, and competitiveness. Efforts are underway to promote green and responsible production, aligning with circular economy principles.

The province has issued 3,452 planting area codes covering more than 100,000 hectares. Key products like mangoes, durians, jackfruits, and pomelos have established a strong market presence and meet international export standards. Dong Thap is also actively implementing digital transformation in agriculture, building centralized databases, and digitizing management processes to enhance traceability and efficiency.
