Thousands of Argentine fans braved the rain to welcome their national football team home, even after their defeat in the final match. The team arrived at Ezeiza airport near Buenos Aires late Monday evening, greeted by a fanfare and a red carpet, though captain Lionel Messi was not among those who disembarked.

While fans gathered at the airport and along the route to the Argentine Football Association (AFA) headquarters, chanting and singing, the players and staff boarded buses without approaching the crowds. The reception was notably more subdued than the massive celebrations following their 2022 World Cup victory, which saw millions take to the streets.

Adding to the post-match events, FIFA is investigating incidents that occurred after the final whistle, reportedly involving provocations from some South American players towards their Spanish counterparts. This investigation casts a shadow over the team's return.

President Javier Milei had previously announced a public holiday to honor the team's status as finalists. Despite the loss, fans gathered around the Obelisco in Buenos Aires and in various neighborhoods, showing their continued support for the "Albiceleste."
