Thousands of High School Spots Remain Open in Belgrade; Third Enrollment Period Begins August 21

Many Serbian high schools, particularly in Belgrade, have numerous open spots for the upcoming third enrollment period, with around 10,000 places available nationwide. The enrollment process, which includes a third round starting August 21, is designed to accommodate students who did not enroll in the first two rounds or who had valid reasons for missing the initial exams.

Several Belgrade gymnasiums, including the Twelfth, Eighth, and Sixth, are offering places in specialized departments. These include programs for students with special aptitudes for computer science, biology, and chemistry. The Zemun Gymnasium also has openings in computer science and physics programs.

Vocational schools also show significant availability. The Technical School for Leather Design has multiple openings for "Leather Goods Maker," "Shoemaker," and "Leather Model Maker." The "Vožd" School for Primary and Secondary Education lists vacancies in trades such as "Locksmith-Welder," "Pedicurist-Manicurist," "Hairdresser," and "Cook." The "Fashion Tailor" program also has openings.

The Civil Engineering School in Zvezdara faces a considerable number of vacancies, particularly in "Drywall Installer" (20 spots) and "Wall Decorator/Painter" (17 spots). Rade Zejak, the school's director, noted a persistent lack of interest in deficit professions, despite the high market demand and competitive starting salaries for painters, which can exceed 100,000 dinars. Goran Mijailović, a practical teaching instructor for wall decorators, expressed concern over the low student numbers in this trade.
