Thousands unite in Peru to attempt world record for largest salsa class

Callao, Peru, buzzed with energy as nearly 3,000 couples gathered at Plaza Grau on Saturday, aiming to set a new international record for the largest salsa class. Dancers moved in unison, performing the same choreography in a vibrant display of community spirit and passion for the dance.

He believes the event positions Callao as the world's salsa capital. The Provincial Municipality of Callao reported over 3,000 couples participated, surpassing the 1,830 needed to break the record, though official certification by Guinness World Records is pending.

Participants of all ages and skill levels danced to performances by artists including Jeinson Manuel, Paula Arias of Son Tentación, Jhonny Peña, Susel Gómez 'La China,' and Yamandú. The municipality stated the initiative aims to showcase the port province's rich salsa tradition to the world and underscore the importance of music and dance in Callao's cultural identity.
